Karate is great for kids, building confidence and self-control, improving fitness, whilst having fun and learning an effective form of Self-Defence.

Our dedicated Kids Academy was established in October 2000, some fifteen months after the main club opened and since then has made some incredible achievements. Our first kids squad competed at the 2001 ESA National Championships and came back with nine trophies, winning the kumite event outright. Since then junior members have gone on to amass some hundred trophies at various competitions, including over twenty first places in regional, national and open events.

Fourteen juniors have gone on to pass cadet black belt, with a number then progressing into the adult classes and going on to achieve adult Dan grades. Our junior development programme also enables black belt grade members the opportunity to assist with the teaching in the junior sessions. On the strength of this former Kids Academy one of our members was voted Sefton Council's Junior Sports Personality of the Year in 2006.

The Kids Karate Academy can be used for Children's University hours and our members have also used their training for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, along with GCSE, AS level and A level Sport. Members have even used their karate for Brownies, Cubs, Scouts and Guides badges. Further to this the Southport Karate Academy, formerly West Lancs Academy has previously run dedicated clubs within schools across Lancashire and Merseyside, following the kids academy ethos, along with also delivering summer schools for Local Authorities.

Ultimately the Kids Academy is dedicated to kids, to their progress, development, achievement and, of course, to them enjoying and benefiting from their Martial Arts training.
